Body Image

Body image is an issue that many Latina women have to deal with. Listening to Maria Hinojosa speak about body image for those few short minutes didn't impress me at all. Her guests Kassandra Pena and Patricia Valoy felt very disrespectful of other peoples cultures and their take on body hair. Listening to all three women basically tear apart another culture was unpleasing. Yes, standing half-naked and being told that you shouldn't have any hair even peach fuzz is too much is horrible. However, this is the culture that one of the women is marrying into and even if she doesn't agree with it she should learn to respect it, instead of saying that it was unnecessary. In the culture she is marrying into the women was socialized into having the idea that a perfect woman does not have any hair anywhere except on her eyebrows, eyelashes, and head. That's understandable, however, the women should have been more respectful of that idea instead of dismissing it with their extremist feminist ideas. A woman should have the right to do as they please with their own body hair without having to think about pleasing her husband.
Another issue that was spoken about is body image and how media has had a great influence on how many women see themselves. Thigh gaps being a big thing. Personally, I do see what they mean when dieting and exceeding for the wrong reasons can be a bad thing. Eating healthier and exercising should be to make a girl happier and feel better about themselves. Instead of chasing after a "normal' body image that sometimes is unattainable. Thigh gaps shouldn't be seen as a necessity to be considered beautiful. There are many women without thigh gaps that are seen, extermely attractive women. As of recently, there have been fewer things about thigh gaps and more about being slim thiqq.  Where women want more of an hourglass figure; small waist and big boobs and butt. A kind of Kim Kardashian vibe. However, keeping up that body for celebrities is easier because of personal chefs who will keep them on a diet and personal trainers that know how to maintain their body shape.  Women shouldn't have to worry about what is beautiful on social media and instead should focus on what makes them feel beautiful.
