Double Standard Much?

This weeks introduction to Latinx Studies has enlightened me in different ideologies and epistemologies to help better understand the Latina/o culture. The discussions accompanied with the reading from Aparicio and Acosta-Belén are eye-opening and connect to the current state of Latina/o culture. It's interesting to see everyone's perspective because it brings up good questions or different ways of looking at a subject that I might have only thought of as one-sided. An interesting thing that caught my attention was the brief subject of undocumentation in Aparicio's narrative. When mentioning Sarita and her children. It made me think about colonization and how the European's believed it to be okay to take over a land that was already inhabited by others and call it their own and not consider its invasion. However, when families and people from latino countries seek help and refuge in America it is seen as an invasion and a crime to come to this country illegally because they are taking advantage of the benefits of this country that was built of immigrants. However, the European's did this to the Native American's and killed them off and pushed them off the land to settle themselves because they wanted a better life in a new world that promised great opportunities. SOunds familiar? That's what latino countries want for their children but it's seen as wrong because of their skin tone and their culture. "Good Old Colonialism" only matters if it benefits the white man on top. That's why seeing all kinds of Latina/o people succeed in America because of self-determination and empowerment expresses some hope for other Latina/o's. Also fighting for social justice and having equality in Merica to better the life of those who migrate here. Some questions I still have yet to be answered include: What would happen if documentation was given to those who were undocumented? Would it be beneficial for everyone? Or would it cause an outbreak of migration to the United States that could lead to overpopulation in most cities?
